Nike LunarGlide 6 Specifics
How well do they fit?
As you can probably tell by the name, this is the 6th edition of this awesome shoe. They have made some improvements to ensure you get a product that fits well and is as comfortable as can be.
These really are one of the most comfortable shoes on the market today in my opinioin. When you first try them on, you get to feel the sole beieth your feet. This sole has been made dual plu to ensure each stride you take is going to feel like walking on a cloud (very soft). The shoe itself is made to fit your shoe like a glove. This fit style will not allow your feet to move around much at all while you are running. When the LunarGlide 5 was being sold, Nike went with 6 cables that connected to the sole in order to deal with tension when you are lacing. This has now been reduced to 5 to ensure a more even lacing pressure across your foot. This is a comfort enhancing feature for sure. When I wore them for longer runs or longer bike rides, my feet were not as worn out as I was used to in the past. Under the sole of the Lunarglide 6 is a layer of Lunarlon foam. This foam is just as sturdy as what was used with previous models but is a lot softer.
Both the Nike Lunarglide 6 as well as the model before are excellent choices if you have pronation of the foot. When shopping for this model, know that the shoe sizes are spot on and will not run large or small. The heel to toe drop is about 11 mm which feels very natural to me as a runner.
Lets talk about durability
A problem I have had in the past with Nike is their shoes do not seem to last very long. This is not the case with the Nike Lunarglide 6. Wearing these daily for long hours of the day have not seen the shoe breakdown in many months. Like all running shoes, the sole is probably going to break down at a faster rate than the outside. I think part of the reason that these seem to be so durable is because of the use of rubber on the front of the shoe protecting it from the eliments and constant use. These seem to hold up just as well as the Lunarglide 5 and I have noticed that the tread on this shoe is still almost good as new.
Breathable?
The LunarGlide 6 got an upgrade to make it one of the best breathable shoes out there. The mesh lining on the top allows your feet to get access to the air it needs to keep your feet cool. This also diminishes sweat and thus foot odor. You can also think of this mesh top as a comfort feature.
Stability
When you have flat feet or an overpronation issue, you need a shoe that is going to offer you the maximum stability. The LunarGlide 6 is designed just for this purpose. When standing on them, your feet feel like they are in the correct position and firmly planted on the ground. Since the midsole is made of a nice foam material, with each step, it absorbs the shock and keeps your legs feeling fresh. From the front to the back you can find the Lunarlon foam they have used. This combined with a plastic heel to keep your foot in place offers you the stability that you need.
What do they weigh?
Every runner wants to find a nice pair of lightweight running shoes. The Lunarglide is the perfect lightweight running shoe weighing in at just a little over 10 ounces per shoe. If you were previously a barefoot runner, you will appreciate the light feel of this footwear. It gets even better when you take a look at the last model and notice that there has been a nice reduction in weight when Nike upgraded to the Lunarglide 6 running shoe.
Colors?
Nike has done an excellent job offering a style for almost anyone with the Lunarglide. There are both men’s and women’s versions as well as color schemes. These will let you dress how you like and be able to match your shoes to your outfit. Looking stylish in a nice pair of running shoes is not always easy, but Nike has done a good job at incorporating this into this sneaker.
Flexible?
Since this is an updated model that added more material to the front of the shoe, there is going to be a loss in flexibility. That being said, you can still bend the shoe and it will return to its original shape in the proper fashion. This just further allows your running stride to feel “springy”.
Injury Prevention
This shoe is great for supporting your feet while also feeling great with just enough cushion. If you are a runner who runs on the road (which these shoes were specifically created for), then you need to protect your knees and hips from the impact of the road. These offer that protection from running on hard surfaces without being too hard on your body.
Are they a good value?
There has actually been another version of this shoe come out in the recent past which has dropped the price of this sneaker drastically. It should cost you just over a hundred dollars depending on what sales are running. This is a great price point and you will be getting a classic Nike. The quality of this Nike shoe combined with the benefits you can get from wearing them regularly are a great value for the money.
Wrapping It Up
The Nike Lunarglide 6 is one, if not the best stability shoe you can buy in the lightweight category. Runners with flat feet, overpronation, or those just looking for a little extra cushion would be well served to purchase a pair.
