Dahon is an accomplished name in the world of bikes and has revolutionized the products in the industry since its very inception.
The Mu Uno is one of Dahon’s most popular bikes. It is pricey (clearly more expensive than its name sake Speed Uno) but is definitely worth the shot. Its high price brings with it a super light body and great aesthetics, something which features on most Dahon products.

Detailed Review:
The Mu Uno can be purchased off Amazon and is delivered within a week in the continental United States. The bike arrives in a stock brown box with the Dahon logo printed on the face. It is kept folded in the box, with paddings around it. Along with the bike, you will find an accessories box, unscrewed pedals and a seat post in the package. The brakes on the front of the bike are installed which is pretty nice and saves some work. The assembly needs only a few minutes and a kitchen knife and mini wrench will come in handy, so you should keep them by your side.
Even though Amazon features it on the images online, the bike does not come with the fenders and rear rack on some versions and you need to make sure if yours has them by contacting the vendor.
After assembling the bike it is essential that you get it thoroughly checked by a licensed bike inspector in your local area, as your warranty will not be activated otherwise. You can order the bike from an actual bike shop if you want to save yourself from this work or if there is no local bike service shop near you, as the bike will come serviced already.
Once the bike is ready, with the tires inflated and chains lubed, you can venture out for you first ride.
The Mu Uno boasts an aluminium alloy body which is strong yet light, while lasting long against all weather conditions. The bike looks solid from the looks alone and you can sense it by feeling against it. Its strength is visible by the fact that it can sustain a 235 lbs rider while keeping the same stability and balance on the road.
The bike has been marketed as a simple no hassle machine and it is indeed one. The single speed mechanism might be a turn of for off road pro bikers, however it is the reason why the bike looks so clean with no cables running down the spine of the body and ruining the sharp frame.
There is only a single cable for the double pivoted brake on the front wheel and if you really don’t want that too, you can unassemble it so that it looks as simple as the Speed Uno. Note that this will cause wearing of your tires in a long course. The back end brakes work fine, but you need to get used to it.
However, removal of brakes is not recommended and you should keep your safety ahead of the good looks.
The bike is also very smooth and silent while on the road, and handles the bumps pretty well.
The single speed is in no way slow for your normal city commuting and in fact is an added advantage as it runs on the optimal speed which is required in an urban setting.
So no worries regarding the maintenance costs if you are planning to get the Mu Uno, while you are bound to have a pretty convenient ride for yourself.
Being a foldable, its easiness to fold is a very important factor when you are deciding to purchase. The Mu 8, like almost all Dahon bikes, is able to turn itself into a compact size without any nuisance. The folding process is very quick, taking under 15 seconds and the bike itself is very light so it can be lifted easily, even by a female without any weight lifting experience. You can carry it around on your commuter train or in the car trunk without any trouble. If you have a Dahon carryon, you can bag the bike within a minute and go around the town. The folding mechanism itself is very solid and safe via the patented V Clamp quick release technology.
The Mu Uno has a Bio Logic Post Pump seat post installed for your convenience. However the seat itself has pretty mixed reviews, with many complaining that the seat is too hard and uncomfortable. If that is the case with you, you can always put on a gel cover on the original seat or completely replace it with a new seat like one from the Brooks brand. (Amazon has some great value for money bike seats available)
The handle bar is adjustable and is from the Radius V comfort line up. However, the handle bar seems a bit too wide for smaller body types, with the rubber handles rotating in your hand which can get a bit annoying.
If you want to install a basket or any accessory in the front or back of the bike, Dahon has provided screw holes already on both sides. The accessories can be found either on the Dahon official website or Amazon as well.
