Detailed Review:
The Dahon can be ordered off Amazon and will ship across continental USA for free. It arrives in a stock box and needs some assembling, which takes about 15 minutes. After you are done with its assembly it is best to get it adjusted and tuned by a professional mechanic, which will also automatically activate your Dahon manufacturer’s warranty.
The Mu has a new generation frame. The body is made of the aluminium alloy and has a beautiful paint on the body. The body is strong and durable, which will ensure that the bike is going to last for a long time.
The bike comes with a NuVinci system. This is a patented technology and one of the latest technology implemented on the bike (a huge jump from other gear systems!). The new technology gives the gear shifting a totally new experience with the entire range. It will change smoothly and will give you the ability to shift without losing your cadence. You can stop at a signal on a steep incline without any trouble or hesitation! You will have no fear of damaging your machine’s components while changing your torque. The gear box can be a bit wide, if you are used to smaller and narrower bikes. This means it is a little heavier than usual, however the weight is very unnoticeable while riding. The range goes from low to high and with time you will probably learn that sweet spot which gives you enough speed and control to enjoy your journey. The gears need zero maintenance even with rough usage.
The Mu comes with 20 inch wheels. These are way more stable than the usual sixteen inches found on smaller foldables like Bromton for example. The tires are durable and will allow you to cover greater distances with lesser peddling involved because of their size.
The new frame means the you can fold the Mu very easily and in a much more efficient way than older Dahon models. There’s some practice required to get used to the process, you just have to rotate the handle bars, tilt the saddle at an angle and get the levers to point up. While the bike’s compact size is not as small as a Brompton but it wraps itself up very quickly and can be carried around by using the frame as a handle. There is a latch on the fork to prevent self folding while you a travelling on the Mu. You can also get special case for the Mu as Dahon has introduced the Airporter cases, which allow you to carry the foldable with you on the plane. The mini Airporter allows you to keep the Mu as a hand luggage.
Like the case in most of the popular foldables, the Mu N360 has an adjustable saddle, which makes it a viable option for people of different sizes. Apart from the comfort of the stock saddle, a rarity with Dahon products, the seat post also has a BiLogic pump installed directly into it, which is extremely handy and allows you to pump your tires with less effort than actual hand pumps.
The handle bar come with adjustment ability, which is again a very important feature to allow people of all body types to enjoy the Mu. You can keep the bar low to get a fast stream lined shape for better speed, or you can lift them up and cruise in an upright position.
The chain stay open frame on the Dahon Mu will let you replace the belt drive system with a carbon one.
One thing to notice is that even though Dahon has marketed the foldable with a rack and fenders in its pictures, the models being shipped do not have any of these accessories. So do not expect them on your purchase or complain about them as Dahon suggests that the marketing was done to show the full capabilities of the Mu and you have to purchase the accessories separately from the Dahon store.
