Getting to the gym and working out hard is one of the most essential things you can do when it comes to burning the fat off your body and losing weight. That does not mean that it is the ONLY thing you should be doing! There are a lot of people out there that really do not understand what they are doing and how fitness can help improve your life.
I want to go over a few misconceptions people have when they first start trying to get healthy.
Misconception #1: Eating Anything You Want
Have you ever seen or talked to a person that thinks that if they go workout frequently, that this will let them eat anything they want and they will not gain weight because of their intense training sessions?
I know I have! You will see people ordering Mcdonalds right after a gym session because they just worked out, that negates the bad food right? Wrong! If you want to burn fat and lose weight, then it is a simple fact that you need to eat less calories than your body burns. Only then will it lose weight. If you do not, your body will store these extra calories as fat and you are no better off for working out.
Not only do people overeat, but they are also eating the incorrect foods. There is a reason that fitness professionals and bodybuilders eat learn natural foods, they get results! If they could get the same results from eating brownies don’t you think they would be doing that? Certainly a brownie tastes a lot better than a grilled chicken breast. You really have to watch what you eat. Try to stay away from sweets and foods that have extra fat in them if you want to see the results of your hard work.
Make sure to get enough protein which is important to repair and build your muscles after training. You want to take in your daily allotment of minerals and vitamins as well. Only after you have your nutrition under control will your body start responding and losing the extra weight.
I believe that in order to be successful at weight loss, almost 90% will depend on your diet. Only about 10% will have to do with the workouts you are doing. You will have a damn hard time trying to out train eating poorly, so do yourself a favor and just stop!
Here is a post that I think you may like that I wrote about nutrition
No Nutrition Foods To Avoid For Weight Loss — This is a list of foods which you should do your best to avoid if you want to start losing weight naturally.
Misconception #2:Stop Working Out
One of the largest mistakes after getting your diet in check is that you start to lose weight and decide that you have had enough so you stop going to the gym. This is not the correct way. If you want to get rid of those last few pounds of weight, you need to get regular exercise. It will help transform your body but also is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. If you are losing weight and stop working out, you will need to eat even less to maintain or continue losing weight as well. For all you food addicts out there, keep hitting the gym!
Working out is so good for you. Regular exercise gives you a stronger cardiovascular system, increases strength in your muscles and bones, and can prevent some awful diseases. I personally workout because it does wonders for my mental health and keeps me sharp in my business.
Misconception #3: Anything Goes Workout
Any fitness workout program you decide to do is better than not doing one at all. Movement is healthy for you! Any time you start something new, I would suggest you consult your doctor to make sure what you are doing is not going to be damaging to your health, but for the most part, getting started is the hardest part for beginners.
Once you have started though, you cannot just do anything you want in the gym if you want to be optimal. It will depend on the aim of your workouts. Is your aim to lose weight? Is your aim to build muscle? Is your aim to increase your stamina? All of these are factors into what movements you should be performing.
If you want to build muscle, you should be lifting weights.
If you want to lose weight, you need to incorporate more cardio into your exercise.
I love to lift weights, but when I had a running race coming up, I knew I was not ready. To prepare for it, I started adding running and biking into my daily routine to improve my cardiovascular endurance because I had a different aim then someone who wants to do calisthenics. Combining everything into a single workout is not easy, so when you first start, pick a specific goal and stick to it until you reach what you want to achieve.
Pick something you love to do, try and modify it to your goals, and get to it! Once you start exercising I hope you never stop and can reap all the possible benefits that are listed above. Avoid these fitness misconceptions and you are well on your way to increasing your fitness level.
