Looking for a folding bike to get your exercise in at an unbeatable price? If so, then the Exerpeutic Folding Magnetic Upright Bike with Pulse is probably a solid choice.
For the low price that it is being offered at, you really do not lack any features at all. In fact, a lot of the features found on this unit are also found at bikes that are priced much higher. These include leg stabilizers, as well as a heart rate monitor which is important to see if you are in the correct fat burning range. If you are looking for workouts pre programmed, this is something you will not get with this bike. If you want to keep it simple while getting fit, take a look at some of what we go over today for this review!
Resistance
The first thing I always like to take a look at when reviewing a piece of exercise equipment is what kind of resistance it has. This is important for getting the right workout in. This Exerpeutic has a magnetic system which allows you to change resistance by simply turning a small nob. There are eight different levels to pick from which is the same as their 400 XL model. With 8 settings to pick from and how easy it is to switch between them, you can cycle at a high intensity and drop it down to easy without any problems.
It should be noted that since this is a budget unit, the hardest resistance MAY not be enough for you if you are in very good shape. Higher end units will come with more resistance but if you are looking to get into shape, or have not cycled in a while, the 8 modes should be plenty for you.
Sound
The Exerpeutic Folding Magnetic Bike has a 3 piece system for its crank. This will ensure that your pedaling motion is as smooth as possible to mimic road feel. Like most reviews, the noise that it makes is very important to me. I sometimes like to get my workout in during the middle of the night and do not want to wake up the neighbors since i live in an apartment building. You will be happy to know that this bike is very quiet and will be able to do all sorts of activities while riding it such as listening to your favorite audio book or even carry on a conversation!
Is it Comfortable?
There is nothing worse than riding a bike that is not comfortable to ride on. We have all been there on a small seat that just hurts and cannot wait to get off. If you get a bike that you hate, will you ever really ride it? I am guessing not! The good thing about the Exerpeutic Folding Bike is that it has a very large seat that is fully cushioned. I would personally say that this is comfortable because it is over sized but also adjustable.
Speaking of over sized, the pedals are also very large to allow anyone of any shape or size to jump on and adjust the unit to be ready for use. Another key factor of how comfortable a stationary bike is, is how much it will move. This unit comes with stabilizers to ensure that it stays stationary to allow for a joyful experience.
The Computer
Some computers on stationary bikes are very simple, while others have all the bells and whistles. When it comes to the Exerpeutic, you have to remember that this is working out on a budget so it will not have everything you could ever want.
That being said, it does display the essentials. These include calories burned, how far you have traveled, time, and heart rate. Measuring your heart rate is very easy as there is a spot to rest your hands on the handlebars for a few seconds for it to read your pulse. I am sure you know how to do this so I will not go much into it. Just know this is a simple computer system, but it serves its purpose.
Warranty
The Exerpeutic Folding Magnetic Bike comes with a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer for parts, and a 3 month warranty for any parts that may be needed.
Size
This bike weighs in at 39 pounds and is 31 X 19 X 46 inches.
User Reviews of the Exerpeutic Folding Magnetic Upright Bike
Overall, from what I can see, this bike is really a hit among almost everyone who has tried it out. Most individuals have rated it 5 stars and cannot seem to comment highly enough for the quality they are getting for the price.
Another huge selling point that people are talking about is how quiet this unit is. Some stationary bikes are extremely loud which only allow you to use them during certain times of the day. With this one, you can work out when you want at low volume. Most people seem to like the seat but a few users have said that it is a bit hard. With it being over sized though, being hard could just mean more support.
Negatives
There have been some users that are just slightly annoyed that when you stop pedaling, the bike does not “coast” like a normal road bike does. However, I do not really see this as a problem because you should not be stopping anyway (right?). If the seat is not comfortable for you like a few people have complained about, you can certainly get a 10 dollar seat cushion made out of gel and that will fix that problem. This is really the ideal solution as this unit is so cheap.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this Exerpeutic Folding Upright Bike gives you exactly what you need, simplicity without all the bells and whistles. You want to get in shape, this is one of the most cost effective ways to do it. You get a good piece of equipment at a good price, with the readouts you need.
The seat could be a little softer and the computer could have a few more bells and whistles, but at this price, why not check it out? Perhaps this is the day your life changes for the better.
