Elliptical Machines v. Running
One of the best ways to improve your heart health is to go jogging. Running increases your heart rate which makes your heart stronger and helps you lose weight. Yet for a variety of reasons, few people are able to keep up with jogging for any extended period of time. Some people choose to get a treadmill, but as everyone knows treadmills are notorious for getting left in the corner, completely unused.
A great way to get the same benefits of your aerobic activities that you would from jogging is to get an elliptical machine/cross trainer, and to use that elliptical to increase your heart rate in ways that are not available with running. Here are some of the many benefits of using an elliptical machine instead of running outdoors.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of all indoor aerobic machines is that you do not have to worry about bad weather. Rain, thunder, snow, cold air – all of these things that are normally used as excuses are completely removed when you are indoors on your elliptical, giving you ample freedom to continue to exercise every day of the year.
- No Impact
Elliptical machines do not impact your legs and feet at all, allowing you to run further for longer. Outdoors, the hard, uneven ground makes your legs tire out long before your heard does, preventing you from getting the full benefits of the exercise. Ellipticals, on the other hand, allow you to keep going so that you are able to only work your heart and get the full exercise you require.

Jogging is jogging. You cannot alter the way you jog to work certain muscle groups. With elliptical machines, you can work very specific muscles in order to give you additional benefits, as well as improve the resistance and other aspects of the “run” on the elliptical, so that you benefit even more and find yourself far more comfortable.

Many of the reasons that people quit jogging, such as boredom and its time consuming nature, are reduced with the elliptical. You can watch your favorite shows or spend time with your friends and family while you are on the machine, so that you have no reason to find your time on the cross trainer any less beneficial for you.

Aerobic exercise is so important for both your health and your weight loss that you need to try to find some way to do it at all times. Jogging outdoors may be good for your health, but it also has significant problems that you will want to use an excuse against jogging. Treadmills relieve some of these problems but few people use the treadmill for any long period of time. Elliptical machines give you the same exercise without all of the excuses that may cause you to quit using them, so you can improve your health by exercising every day.
